 HE IS OUT OF RETIREMENT!

After 4 years away from face-to-face teaching, spent raising young kids, finishing a PhD, and teaching shoulder science online, Dr Jared Powell is stepping back into the room.

This will be my first in-person shoulder workshop in four years, and it’s a full-day deep dive into the condition I’ve spent the most time researching, teaching, and thinking about...

  ROTATOR CUFF SHOULDER PAIN

If you’ve followed the work online, this is where it all comes together; live, in the room, with time to think through the nuances of shoulder pain.

  1-DAY SHOULDER WORKSHOP IN BRISBANE

 WHY THIS WORKSHOP EXISTS

Rotator cuff–related shoulder pain is still routinely explained using models and frameworks that have been disproven for nearly a decade.

This is problematic.

It shapes how clinicians reason, how patients understand their pain, and how quickly care escalates toward injections or surgery.

This workshop is about closing that gap, replacing fragile narratives with clearer, more honest clinical reasoning you can actually use.

  WORKSHOP DETAILS

🕰️ When:

Saturday, 27 June 2026
9:00 am to 4:30 pm
(please arrive and check in before 9:00 am)

📍 Venue:

Exercise Healthcare Australia
458 Enoggera Rd
Alderley QLD 4051

 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

This day draws directly from The Complete Shoulder (2nd Edition) online course and focuses almost entirely on RCRSP.

Understanding RCRSP

  • What RCRSP is and what it isn’t
  • Why pain, imaging, tissue changes, and function rarely align
  • The limits of structure-based explanations
  • When rotator cuff pathology matters and should not be dismissed

Assessment & Reasoning

  • Interpreting clinical tests without overclaiming diagnostic certainty
  • Using strength and ROM testing appropriately
  • Working productively with uncertainty

Exercise & Movement Therapy

  • What exercise is likely doing (and what it probably isn’t)
  • Why our intuition about how exercise works is wrong and what this means for clinical practice
  • How to individualise loading without rigid protocols

Communication

  • Explaining rotator cuff pain without fear-based metaphors
  • Navigating beliefs shaped by scans, Google, and prior care
  • Supporting confidence, capability, and return to valued activity

This is a thinking-heavy day designed to improve your clinical decisions, not just your exercise selection.

  WHAT'S INCLUDED

Full-day, in-person workshop
(9:00 am – 4:30 pm)

Lifetime access to The Complete Shoulder (2nd Edition) online course
(23 modules · self-paced · permanent access — granted after the workshop)

Case discussions, practical examples, and open Q&A

  GET TO KNOW JARED

Hi, I'm Jared!

I’m on a mission to eliminate outdated modes of managing shoulder pain by helping clinicians to confidently apply contemporary evidence and management strategies to deliver better patient outcomes.

I am an experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapist based in Queensland, Australia.

I believe in the inherent adaptability and strength of human beings – a belief strongly backed by scientific literature.  As such, I approach shoulder pain management on the pillars of tailored therapeutic exercise and patient-centred education.

Since qualifying in 2012, I have had a special interest in the shoulder joint. I’ve undertaken significant study and research in this area and have completed a shoulder pain-related PhD at Bond University.

My shoulder research and educational materials have been published in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, along with several orthopaedic and musculoskeletal textbooks.

I lean strongly on scientific evidence in my clinical practice and research, leading to many early mornings and late nights geeking out on the latest research!

I teach my shoulder workshops both in Australia and internationally to much acclaim. More than 1,500 students from 50 countries have taken my online courses. I am also a visiting lecturer at Bond University, where I teach the shoulder to physiotherapy students.
